The world of art and culture is by its very nature international: culture does not recognise borders, artists and curators travel the world, international Artists’ Residencies are ubiquitous and social media connects people effortlessly.

Where is the journey towards internationalisation speeding ahead, and where is it stagnating? Can culture influence world affairs at times of political tension? When is international exchange a genuine exchange with political systems? Does international also mean open-minded? How important are personal encounters, and what does internationalisation mean in economic and ecological terms? How sustainable and democratic is the internationalisation of the cultural sphere and what can we do to address the issues?
